Arnold & Itkin was able to successfully win a verdict for a woman who was injured while traveling in an ambulance. The victim was seven months pregnant at the time the incident occurred, December 2010, and was experiencing severe stomach pain when she called for an ambulance. The ambulance was from Acadian Ambulances. The firm was able to show that the driver of the ambulance had a poor driving record as well as bad eyesight. The ambulance picked the woman up to transport her to the hospital. One the way there while traveling on the LA-1 North, the driver dropped something on the floor and proceeding to pick it up without slowing down. As a result, the ambulance collided with the back of a sugar cane truck. As a result, the plaintiff suffered a severed spine and a brain injury.
The woman will never be able to recover and is permanently restricted to a wheelchair. When the verdict was decided, she had already incurred $1.4 million in medical bills and she is expected to need an additional $30 million for all future medical treatments.
