This Monday morning in New Jersey, the Turnpike's southbound lanes were closed due to a tractor trailer accident. According to reports, a tractor trailer rear ended a horse trailer that was being pulled by a pickup truck at 5 am. The force of the tractor trailer into the horse trailer caused the pickup pulling the horse trailer to be pushed into the back of another tractor trailer. The driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to a hospital but his exact condition was unknown. The animals in the horse trailer were taken to a farm for treatment. The total amount of time the southbound turnpike was closed was five hours.
Accidents involving trucks are never a small matter. Due to their size, the damage they cause is usually pretty severe. Although the cause of the accident is still under investigation, it may be speculated that since the crash took place early in the morning, the driver may have been experiencing truck driver fatigue.
