Do I need to speak with an attorney that specializes in tractor trailer accidents?

Trucking accidents are often much more complex than your standard vehicle accident. There is a whole set of laws that govern trucking claims. The Federal Motor Safety Act deals with how many hours a truck driver can be working and the types of certifications they need to have. A lot of times, professionals that represent car wreck cases don't have specialized knowledge in the laws that effect commercial trucks. Truck accident cases are a lot more dynamic and require a highly experienced lawyer. They require certain types of experts, lawyers that will go down to trial and actually try the case.

The problem is with folks trying to negotiate their own case with the insurance adjusters is that they are doing something they have never done before and it is outside of their expertise. This is no different than if I were to go walk in and do brain surgery tomorrow. I have never done that before; you need to be a highly trained specialist to successfully complete the surgery, and you need to be a skillfully practiced attorney to successfully represent a legal case. Furthermore, you are negotiating with the insurance adjuster for what has happened to you up to this point. However, what will happen when you get future medical bills? What happens when you can't work at your same job; or you are laid off because you can't fulfill the physical requirements? You may be able to successfully negotiate be for your short term costs but this is really short-changing you on what your potential recovery should be.

So, in evaluating which law firm you should hire to represent your trucking case you need to pick a firm that understands trucking laws; one that is willing to take its knowledge of the law to the court house in cases in which the defendant is unwilling to stand up and take responsibility for what they did wrong.
